Walt Disney once said of Disneyland that it would never be completed and would “continue to grow as long as there is imagination left in the world.” This same principal certainly holds true for Walt Disney World as well. Indeed, the history of Disney World is one of continual evolution, change, and improvement. In the ever more competitive theme park industry, complacency is one of the largest potential pitfalls. Those companies that simply rest on their laurels and maintain the status quo cannot hope to survive.
We live in a world today where new technology has made things possible that could not even have been dreamt of when Disney World first opened in 1971 and theme parks are taking advantage of these innovations to draw in more guests and differentiate themselves from their competition. Herein lays the beauty of Disney World. Walt Disney once likened his theme parks to a piece of clay saying, “If there is something I don’t like, I’m not stuck with it. I can reshape and revamp.”
Reflecting on Walt’s words got me thinking about ways in which I would improve upon each of the parks at Disney World. There is no arguing that Disney has set the standard when it comes to theme park experiences in terms of groundbreaking attractions, shows, and other forms of entertainment, but there is always room for improvement. While there are so many things that I thoroughly enjoy at Disney World, there are still others that I would like to see changed.
Here, I will examine each of the parks, going land by land, and detail the changes that I would like to see made. My changes range from minor tweaks to full-blown addition and subtraction of attractions. I will not limit myself to just talking about rides and shows, but also delve into restaurants, shops, and other atmospheric elements, all of which play a pivotal role in the overall experience for guests. For the sake of argument, I will be assuming that money is not an issue. My changes include some of my own original ideas, elements taken from other Disney parks around the world, as well as some attractions that were planned and discussed but for one reason or another were never built. It is my hope that this blog will serve as a source for discussion and the exchange of ideas about how we would all like to see Disney World grow, develop, and improve.
